Macau and Hong Kong still call Portugal “baba” (means Daddy in Cantonese/Mandarin). China wants to be called baba but has to settle for “laoshi” (means teacher), or LaoLao (“old person”, courtesy of Hong Kong), which are still rather respectful, but not as cute.
